KRISTS SARŽANTS is a Latvian pianist and composer. In 2015 he graduated from Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Secondary Music School and now continues his studies at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Music Academy. So far he has collaborated with such notable musicians and bands as Orchestra “Rīga”, “Pieneņu Vīns”, Konstantins Jemeljanovs (trumpet, LV/USA), Peter Hertmans (guitar, BEL), Oskars Petrauskis (saxophone), Toms Rudzinskis (saxophone), Dāvis Jurka (saxophone), Kaspars Kurdeko (drums), Artis Orubs (drums), Toms Poišs (bass), Evilena Protektore (vocals) and others.

Krists has also participated in masterclasses with various jazz musicians, including Roscoe Mitchell (saxophone, USA), Jan Gunnar Hoff (piano, NO), Lorenz Kellhuber (piano, GER), Walt Weiskopf (saxophone, USA), Michael Arbenz (piano, SUI) and many others.

In his music Krists uses modern classical music techniques, improvisation based on jazz music, polyphonic melodies and film music inspired harmonies. His biggest influences have been Nils Frahm, Martin Kuuskmann, Tigran Hamasyan, Avishai Cohen, Taylor Eigsti, Max Richter, Philip Glass and others.

In April 2017 Krists recorded his first promotional CD for “Jazzahead!” trade fair. Four original compositions were recorded, accompanied by his Latvian folk song arrangement “Jūriņ’ Šņāca, Jūriņ’ Krāca” (The Sea Hissed, The Sea Roared). Compositions were recorded together with Artis Orubs (drums), Davis Jurka (saxophone), Toms Poišs (double bass) and vocalist Evilena Protektore (in “Jūriņ’ Šņāca, Jūriņ' Krāca”) and in February 2018 he finished recording his debut album "XXII" with his quintet. Release is currently scheduled for April.
